I obtained my Ph.D in the same year
that the World Wide Web was introduced. So much has changed in that
time in our ability, through electronic publishing and the Internet,
to distribute information.
When I started thinking about this website, the designer
and I discussed at length the challenges of promoting a work of
writing
through a medium that does not encourage reading.
We open books to read; we open our web browsers to look.
